1. The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Vow (“Vow”, “we”, “us”) for the Vow app on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch and the website heyvow.com. By downloading or using Vow you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use Vow.
If you got Vow from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”) also applies. These terms add to it; where the two conflict about your licence to use the app, the Standard EULA controls. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. Not medical advice
Vow provides self-help tools, tracking and general information. It is not a medical device or a medical, psychological or addiction treatment service, it does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it does not replace advice from a doctor or other qualified professional.
Stopping alcohol or some drugs suddenly can cause withdrawal that is medically dangerous. If you drink heavily or every day, or use substances such as benzodiazepines, talk to a doctor before you stop. 3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, and old enough to enter a binding contract where you live, to use Vow. Vow deals with adult subjects, including alcohol, drugs, gambling and sexual behaviour.
4. Your account and data
Vow creates an anonymous identity when you first open it; signing in with Apple or Google is optional. Keep your device and your Apple or Google account secure — anyone with access to your unlocked device can open Vow.
Most of what you enter in Vow — your habits, reasons, photos, voice notes and notes — stays on your device and is not uploaded to us, so we cannot restore it if your device is lost or the app is deleted. Your iPhone’s own backups are the way to keep it. What you create in Vow remains yours.
5. Subscriptions and free trials
Vow is free to download. Vow Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription, offered as a yearly plan (which may include a free trial for new subscribers), a monthly plan and a weekly plan. The price, the length of each period and any trial are shown in the app and by the App Store before you confirm, in your local currency. Current US prices are listed on our home page.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends, at the price of the plan you chose, unless you were told of a price change as the App Store requires.
- If your plan includes a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it does. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), or from Profile → Settings → Manage subscription in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your Vow account does not cancel a subscription.
- Payments are processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com; we cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves. Nothing in these terms limits refund rights you have under consumer law.
- We may occasionally offer a discounted plan. Its price and terms are shown before you buy, and it follows the same renewal rules.
- Vow Premium is not available through Family Sharing.
6. Free and Premium features
We decide which features are free and which require Premium, and this can change as the app develops. The app always shows what a plan includes before you pay. Crisis resources remain free for everyone.
7. Automatically generated content
Some content in Vow, such as the Craving Shield’s short coaching lines, is generated automatically by an AI model. It is meant as encouragement in the moment, can be imperfect or inaccurate, and is not professional advice. Don’t rely on it for decisions about your health.
8. Health information
Health information in Vow and on heyvow.com is general, for education, and linked to the sources it comes from. We work to keep it accurate and current, but research changes and individual circumstances differ, so we cannot guarantee it is complete or right for you. If you find an error, please tell us.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Vow in a way that breaks any law or harms anyone;
- try to access our servers or other people’s data without permission, overload or disrupt the service, or get around usage limits;
- reverse engineer, copy, resell or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it;
- use automated means to extract content from the app or its services;
- use the coaching feature to generate content unrelated to your own quit.
10. Intellectual property
The Vow app, name, logo, design, text, audio, images and software belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, subject to these terms and the Standard EULA.
11. Third-party services
Vow relies on services from Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Cloudflare and OpenAI, and links to third-party websites and helplines. We do not control those services or websites and are not responsible for their content or availability. Your use of Apple and Google accounts is governed by their own terms.
12. Changes and availability
We may update, change or discontinue features, and the service may occasionally be unavailable. If we discontinue Vow Premium entirely, we will tell you in advance where we can, and any refund will follow Apple’s policies and the law.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Vow at any time and delete your account in Profile → Settings → Delete account & data. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including 2, 7, 8, 10, 14 and 15 — continue to apply.
14. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, Vow is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not promise that Vow will help you quit, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that information in it is complete. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Vow, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Vow in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
16. Apple
These terms are between you and Vow, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, or claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property — we are, to the extent these terms and the law provide. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Vow’s operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and if a change is material we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Vow after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply.
